Creating Safety Awareness at City Learning and Care Corio.
Every day in Australia, 5000 children are injured and 100 are hospitalised as the result of accidents. To address this statistic, KIDS Foundation is a unique charity putting the spotlight on safety awareness and injury prevention to help keep kids, their families and community injury free. Founder of the KIDS Foundation, Susie O’Neill, says the SeeMore Safety Program provides great teaching opportunities.
‘We encourage participation in the SeeMore Safety Program to be both educational and fun. The activities, books and materials empower children and the rest of the community to ‘Think Safe, Play Safe’.
At City Learning and Care Corio, children are participating in activities which highlight the importance of creating safety awareness at preschool, home, playground, the beach, in the car and many other relevant environments.
Maria, the City Learning and Care Corio’s teacher, said that she was pleased to be encouraging educating children about safety through the SeeMore Safety Resources provided by KIDS Foundation through the sponsorship of the Give Where you Live Foundation.
‘Education and Safety at City Learning and Care Corio is our highest priority. Our involvement in the SeeMore Safety program has helped our families and their children to focus on injury prevention in our own local community, as well as reminding us that safety is an important national issue,’ said Maria.
The KIDS Foundation’s financial partner, Give Where You Live, are this year’s provider of the SeeMore Safety Program for some of the kindergartens in the Geelong region. Their sponsorship enables KIDS Foundation to take free literacy-based, educational resources to City Learning and Care Corio and 9 other kindergartens in the area.
These resources were delivered in term one and consist of the SeeMore Safety doll, children’s activity booklets, teacher resources, a Big Book and a Virtual Preschool with various activities for students to participate in at Kinder and at home. Parents and families will also receive access to the Virtual Preschool to enjoy reading and listening to the SeeMore Safety titles as well as playing the interactive games and learning about playing safe.
